BE RESTORED

Someone was reading Psalm 23 on the Radio yesterday, and although I’ve heard it many times, this line jumped out at me ‘He restores my soul.’

When you are feeling washed out or run down, you literally feel like your soul is fading away. You can’t concentrate on anything, and everything feels like a huge task. It’s like having a brick wall in front of you every day that you have to climb – and some days, you really don’t want to try! Or, as I have often said, It’s like swimming through mud. You may be able to do it, but it is extremely difficult and very exhausting!

This can be the start of depression. I’ve been there before, so I know the signs, but even knowing that, it can be an effort not to just give in and take to your bed!

I was beginning to feel like that after my Step -dad’s death, then I heard this.

‘The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will [dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever’ (New King James bible)

‘I shall not want’ means I shall lack nothing.

‘Green pastures’ means pastures of tender grass, or plenty of goodness.

‘Still waters’ means rest.

In that moment, my Heavenly Father led me to his abundant goodness and rest, and he restored my soul.

Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life because of the glorious God I trust and put my faith in.

And that goes for you too if you!! We surely have a wonderful, loving Father in Heaven. How great is our God!

This is how I understand my God.

Read for yourself, see what you think.
