WE ARE NOT OFTEN TOLD TO OUT-DO EACH OTHER IN THE BIBLE

We are not being told to think of ourselves as better than anyone else, but to outdo one another in showing honour. (Romans 12:10). In other words, put make others more important than yourself.

How? verse 9, Let love be genuine! Hate what is evil and hold fast to what is good.

Love one another with brotherly affection - Not sexual!! These lines are being blurred as time goes on, but brotherly affection is nothing to do with sex. it's about caring and kindness.

verses 11-12 say, Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit and serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope and be patient in tribulation. - Note we will go through tribulations, (difficult times).

This is an important one to remember, Be constant in prayer!! We must remember to make time to find a quiet space and pray. I read of one lady who had a large family and a small home, who simply sat down and pulled her apron up to cover her face to pray, as there was no where for her to go, and the children learned not to interupt her in those times. We must keep in touch with our Heavenly Father to offer praises for things he has done and to make requests for our daily walk with him.

Verse 2 of this chapter says, 'Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.....' so, do not copy the evil of the world, keep yourselves seperate in Jesus. To achieve this, we do not seperate ourselves physically by going to a secluded camp. We are in the world, but not of the world. No, we must keep ourselves sober, be honourable and kind and be open to the Spirit of God, and talk to Jesus an a daily basis, no matter what situation we find our selves in!

The book of Romans is a lovely book with good scriptures that expalin a lot, and good teachings on how to behave as a Christian. The Romans of the time were blown by the wind, taking on the god's of other cultures 'just in case,' and as such were in a world of self gratification and depravity. It ultimately led to their downfall.

So, eyes on Jesus, pray always, and outdo each other in honour, love and goodness - but never think too highly of yourselves. We are all equal in Jesus eyes.

This is how I undestand my God.

Read for yourself, see what you think.
