OUR FUTURE IS IN JESUS ALONE
I was reading, John chapter 14 today and this is what struck me.
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no-one comes to the Father buy through me.” You believe him or you don’t. That’s the truth of it. He is THE way. If there were another way, he would have told us, and he would not have needed to go to the cross. But there is one way to the Father – Jesus!
As I understand it, without Jesus we have no future because he is the one who saves us from the wrath of God! We have had plenty of warning, and so now is the time to choose, I suppose.
He goes on to say, “If you had known me, you would have known my Father also, henceforth* you do know him and you have seen him.”
This is where Philip says, “Lord, show us the Father and we shall be satisfied.” To which Jesus replies,
“Have I been with you so long and yet you do not know me Philip?” That’s an interesting reply.
Jesus explains, “He who has seen me, has seen the Father. How then can you say, ‘show us the Father?’ Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?T he words I speak I do not speak on my own authority. But the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves.”
I think this means, If you can’t believe my words, believe in the good works I have demonstrated.
The reason there was so much talk and expectation of miracles was because of the miracles he had already performed that no-one else had done – like, healing a man blind from birth, and a woman who had been bleeding for at least twelve years, and a man whose arm was withered. No-one had previously done things like that. This is why his reputation went ahead of him!
As I understand it, Jesus is the last, and final way that our Heavenly Father gives us, in order to forgive our faults, failings, and total rejection of Him and his ways, before he has to come and destroy the wickedness and evil that pervades** the whole world.
Our only hope is Jesus and him resurrected, so that all who believe will be saved.
This is how I understand my God.
Read for yourself, see what you think.
*henceforth means; ‘from now on’
