When singing the song ‘In Christ alone,’ my heart warmed when I sang “’till on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied.”
I felt a warm gratitude to Jesus for taking my punishments and giving me life.
What a fabulous God we have. He took our shame upon himself through his Son. I believe the Father felt every blow and every twinge of pain whilst watching his only begotten Son suffer – as do we when our children are hurting. We feel it with them emotionally and spiritually. It must have cost him dear to lay his fierce anger onto Jesus until it was done, and he was completely satisfied.
He could quite easily have wiped us out as a bad lot, but no! instead he gave us a way out of his anger and is willing to completely forgive us through faith in his Son’s sacrifice.
Jesus has now become the banner to which believers run. (One of God’s names is Jehovah Nissi – The Lord my banner. I believe Jesus is that banner - Exodus 17:15, Psalm 60:4, Isaiah 5:26, Isaiah 11:10)*
Through Jesus the wrath of God was satisfied so that you and I can stand on the day of his return.
