The Spirit of truth.

The Holy Spirit is someone I find difficult to grasp because he is not a Physical being, and because of this I have put Him aside thinking. One day I'll look into this - but never getting round to it.

So the other day I heard a talk on the subject and have decided to look into it more thoroughly.

I'm only just starting so forgive any mistakes, but so far I have understood that He is an actual person - not a thing, which I have thought in the past. Jesus described Him as a person in John 14:16-18, when He said, "I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor, to be with you you for ever, even the spirit of truth, whom the world cannot recieve because it neither sees him nor knows him, but you know him, for he dwells in you, and will be in you." Although Jesus say 'the' spirit, he goes on to describe him as a person.

I looked this up on Mounce Reverse interlinear bible where it said the word Spirit in the greek in this scripture is written as Pneuma which means, among other things, 'a spritual being/the substance of spirit/a bodiless spirit. This could be interperated in different ways, but as Jesus used the word 'him', I take it to mean that although he does not have a physical body, he is still a personality in himself. The word 'him' is from the greek Autos which means self, very;alone/of oneself/of ones own motion

Also you can grieve the Holy spirit, which to me means that he is a person rather than a force of energy which God uses. see Isaiah 63:10 'Yet they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he turned and became their enemy and he himself fought against them.' and Ephesians 4:30 'And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.'

There is probably much more info throughout the bible, so its worth a more detailed look I think.

Don't forget to pray before you do, because God hears us especially when we ask for good things like truth and wisdom.

This is how I understand my God. Read for yourself, see what you think.
