MANY NATIONS JOINED THE LORD

When Zechariah wrote his book, only Israel belonged to God. Only Israel chose Yahweh as their God, so only Israel was chosen by God. Yet Zechariah wrote, ‘Many nations will be joined with the Lord in that day and will become my people. ‘ (Zehariah 2:11,  & 8:22, Micah 4:2-3).

Since Jesus, many nations have joined with the Lord through the Christian faith. Zechariah’s prophesy was written approximately 500 years before Christ and in all that time, and for a long time after, Israel stood alone in the world. But through Christ we are effectively allied to Israel – how can we not be? Our God came down to meet us in Israel, and although he had to scatter them among the nations for a long time, he had not abandoned them. He used the Christian nations to get them back into the land he gave to them.

Verses 10-13 say, “shout and be glad Daughter Zion. For I am coming and will live among you.” Declares the Lord. “For many nations will be joined with the Lord in that day and will become my people. I will live among you, and you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you. The LORD will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land and will again choose Jerusalem. Be still before the LORD all mankind because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.” I think this is why the Jews were waiting for their God to appear. They just didn’t expect Jesus.

Christians are the many nationalities that are allied to the LORD through their faith in Jesus.

This is how I understand my God.
