GIFTS FROM GOD
Whilst practicing the reading for church this week, (John 1:1-18), I read, ‘For from his fulness we have all received grace upon grace…’
It made me think about what grace means, so I looked it up on Mounce Reverse Interlinear New Testament and it came up with the Greek word ‘charis.’
On Wikipedia, I got this; Charis(Greek:Χάρις) is a given name derived from a Greek word meaning "grace, kindness, and life.
On biblehub.com, There’s Greek Lexicon gives the meanings as, (as far as I can understand it), ‘sweetness, charm, loveliness, good will, loving kindness and favour, acceptance, kindness upon one that is not deserving, blessings, knowledge, (Of God), utterance (of God’s word).
It also says - again, assuming I understand it correctly, that the grace gives us a grateful spirit, full of thanksgiving, a desire to please God and give to the poor.
So, grace is not one gift from God, it is many gifts, given as and when we need them. Grace upon grace, or grace after grace, or one grace after another grace – depending on what your bible says.
We need to remember this when we are in the darker places in our lives or minds. God is good and full of grace. He loves you and will shower you with his grace when you call on his name. Thanks be to Jesus Christ our Lord who came to show us the way and nature of our God.
We are so lucky to have a God that loves us so much. My Praises go out to him with a grateful heart.
This is how I understand my God.
Read for yourself, see what you think.
Found this too; Charis meaning nature, human .creativity/fertility, which I take to mean we have been given a creative and fertile body and mind. However, we need to ensure that our gifts are kept under God's will and not our own, because, in the scheme of things, we are like small children who don't fully understand the consequences of our actions on others and on God. We need to trust in him.
